Honda Civic vs. Toyota Corolla: Compact Sedans

Explore performance, reliability, safety, and more to see why Honda might be your better choice. Visit DELLA Honda of Plattsburgh today!

  • Honda Civic: The Civic is renowned for its sporty appeal, bolstered by two engine options that cater to diverse driving needs.
    • The standard 158-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine provides a solid foundation of performance.
    • A turbocharged 1.5-liter option elevates the experience with 180 horsepower, ensuring a more dynamic and engaging drive.
    • Driving enthusiasts favor the Honda Civic for its responsive handling and acceleration, making it a top pick for those who enjoy a more active driving experience.
  • Toyota Corolla: The Corolla counters with a single engine choice, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 169 horsepower.
    • While the Toyota Corolla engine surpasses the Civic’s base horsepower, it does not offer the enhanced driving dynamics provided by the Civic’s turbocharged option.
    • The Corolla focuses more on reliability and comfort than sporty performance, making it ideal for those who prioritize a smooth and steady ride over a sporty feel.
    • Its streamlined design and efficient powertrain make it a sensible choice for commuting.

Midsize Sedans: Toyota Camry vs. Honda Accord

The Toyota Camry and Honda Accord stand out for their performance, efficiency, and luxury when comparing midsize sedans.

  • Toyota Camry: Offers a slightly more powerful base engine with 203 horsepower but falls short in terms of interior space and fuel efficiency compared to the Honda Accord.
  • Honda Accord: Shines with its turbocharged 1.5-liter engine producing 192 horsepower. It boasts better fuel efficiency and more room for passengers and cargo, making it ideal for families and long-distance travelers.

Honda CR-V vs. Toyota RAV4: SUVs:

The Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 are top choices for those seeking a reliable and versatile SUV. Both are celebrated for their comprehensive features and broad appeal to consumers.

  • Honda CR-V: The CR-V is renowned for its exceptional interior spaciousness. It easily accommodates both passengers and cargo, making it an ideal choice for families or those requiring extra room.
    • Advanced technological features across all models, such as advanced driver-assistance systems and a user-friendly infotainment setup.
    • Enhanced comfort and significant value, positioning the Honda CR-V as a leader in its class for those who value practicality and tech integration.
  • Toyota RAV4: While the RAV4 competes closely with the CR-V, it focuses more on rugged styling and off-road capability, especially in the Adventure and TRD Off-Road models.
    • The Toyota RAV4 has a slightly less roomy interior compared to the CR-V but compensates with robust performance.
    • The RAV4’s solid build and durability make it a reliable choice for adventurous individuals and families who appreciate a vehicle capable of handling varied terrains.

Sports Cars: Honda Civic Type R vs. Toyota GR Supra

The sports car arena presents a thrilling face-off between the Honda Civic Type R and the Toyota GR Supra, showcasing distinctive performance and driver engagement approaches.

  • Honda Civic Type R: Known for its exhilarating performance, the Civic Type R features a robust 315-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter engine paired uniquely with a manual transmission.
    • The Civic is a nod to traditional sports car enthusiasts who prefer a hands-on driving experience.
    •  The Type R is celebrated for its precision handling and aggressive styling, making it a favorite among those who appreciate a car that feels as exciting on the open road.
  • Toyota GR Supra: The Supra counters have a different performance philosophy, focusing on a sleek design and an automatic transmission.
    • While its base engine starts at 255 horsepower, there are options available that push this number higher.
    • The Supra caters to those who prioritize straight-line speed and a more relaxed driving style without the need for manual shifting.

The Civic Type R appeals to drivers who enjoy an engaging, manual driving experience and track-ready dynamics, whereas the Supra caters to those who prefer speed with the convenience of an automatic transmission and a focus on luxury and comfort.

Honda and Toyota: Performance and Efficiency

When it comes to blending performance with efficiency, Honda and Toyota stand out with their distinct approaches. Each caters to different aspects of driving dynamics and fuel efficiency.

  • Honda’s Turbocharged Engines: Honda is renowned for its turbocharged engines.
    • Honda engines are designed for quick acceleration and responsive power, which is ideal for those who enjoy a spirited driving experience.
    • The turbocharged 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter engines in models like the Honda Civic and Honda Accord exemplify this approach, providing an exhilarating drive without sacrificing fuel economy.
  • Toyota’s Hybrid Technology: Toyota has long been a pioneer in hybrid technology.
    • Toyota’s hybrids are engineered to maximize fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.
    • A blend of electric and gasoline power, ensuring efficient performance across various driving conditions.

Honda and Toyota have dedicated significant resources to developing technologies that enhance the driving experience while being mindful of environmental impact and operational costs.

Whether you prioritize the dynamic performance of Honda’s turbocharged engines or the advanced eco-friendliness of Toyota’s hybrids, both brands offer compelling options that do not compromise efficiency or excitement.

How to Occupy the Backseat

Lookin’ a little stressed there! Driving with two children, I get why you would be.

Nice weather is making its’ way to us which means school will be out in no time and you will be stuck driving around Plattsburgh, NY with a backseat filled with toys, food, and probably something stuck to the seats. I mean you can play some sing-a-longs but how long will that last? Probably ten- never-mind.

Here are a few games- let me finish… games that kids could play in the car while your focus is still on getting from point A to point B safely.

  1. I Spy: This game will get their attention quickly! You pick something out like a dog, a gas station, or something creative like a lion… they will keep looking! Each time they find something, give them two minutes of TV time.
  2. Yellow Car: Each time a yellow car is spotted, someone gets a piece of candy! Get ten in a row and you win!
  3. Would You Rather: My favorite! This game can get as creative as the passengers in the car! Take turns asking “Would you rather” questions, they can be silly, funny, honest, it’s up to you. This is great for those short trips to grandma’s house.
  4. Hangman: While the kids have paper and a crayon, you guess the letter, the draw! Perfect distraction from the long ride!

These are just some of the games that could be played on your next ride with the kids. Include letters, colors, shapes in all these games to make them educational. Another idea is to grab a list from a teacher of what they are learning in the classroom and incorporate these ideas into these car games! Keep that list in the vehicle so anytime you’re in the car, they work on something new! Remember to reward them when the children guess something correct! Driving with your kids has never sounded better! Learning AND driving?! What a bargain.

It’s the Simple Things

Hauling groceries around is one thing, but getting to the car and not having a place to fit them all is another. Picture all the food bouncing in the back seat or rolling around on the floor with every turn you make.

Not just the groceries, but what about those soccer shoes and balls? Or that heavy football gear? Solution! Getting plastic bins or crates and adding them to your trunk! You must be thinking that it cannot be that simple. Oh but it is! Find ones that fit your truck size and add the groceries or equipment in them. Turn them over on their side and create a simple shelf. This creates more room for all that you bring in your vehicle. This is a simple DIY project that can be done in about five seconds! This will create more of an organization system as well as control where the groceries go, (or don’t go).

This is also a great, easy way to bring the groceries inside. Just pick up the crate! Make your life easier with just adding supplies you can find anywhere.
Crates and Bins can be found at most local stores like the dollar store, Wal-Mart, and Target. While all your vehicle needs can be found at Della Honda in Plattsburgh located at 702 State Route 3, Plattsburgh, NY 12901.
