- Spare Change: Whether you are on the road and need a couple bucks for a souvenir at a road stop or need some change for the ice cream man at the park, it’s always smart to have some cash on you.
- Outdoor-Ready Bag: It always seems like something is forgotten when you arrive at the beach or local campground. Instead of shelling out money for something you already have at home, keep extras in an easy-to-grab bag in the car. Filled with items like bug spray, sunscreen, baby powder, small shovels and buckets, a towel to clean feet off with, and a blanket to sit on, you’ll be prepared for just about any outdoor activity.
- First Aid Kit: Where there’s a playground, trail, or picnic area there’s usually a bump, bruise, or scrape not far behind. We suggest keeping first-aid items like alcohol pads, band-aids or gauze and tape, hydrocortisone cream, tweezers (for playground slivers), antihistamine (for bee stings, etc), and any medicine your family might need in a water-proof or repellent case so that you can treat life’s little emergencies on the fly.
- Car-Care Kit: Speaking of little emergencies, car problems can strike at any time too. To avoid having to wait for a service vehicle or tow truck for fixable problems, keep a box of basic car necessities in your trunk. Things like engine coolant, antifreeze, extra windshield washer fluid, a can of “Fix-A-Flat”, water, oil, and a towel can save you a headache on the road. Don’t forget to replace anything you use and only attempt repairs when you know what you are doing and when the situation is safe!
It’s easy to rack up extra miles in the summer since many families travel to visit distant relatives, go on trips to nearby states and attractions, or just commute back and forth to camps and practices so make sure you are prepared for anything!

Speeding Into The Future With Honda
The development of autonomous vehicle technology is really a group effort at the proving grounds in Concord, CA. Honda, GoMentum Station, Contra Costa Transportation Authority, and the City of Concord are currently in the beginning stages of creating a collision-free society.
At GoMentum Station, a 5,000-acre site located in the decommissioned zone of the Concord Naval Weapons Station, Honda and partners are testing out new technology called Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). These systems will potentially usher in a new era of connectivity, mobility, and interdependence.
“Automated vehicles have the potential to significantly improve safety and expand access to mobility,” said Jim Keller, senior manager and chief engineer, Honda R&D Americas. “We believe that safe and secure sites like GoMentum provide a unique opportunity to accelerate technology development and the advent of a cooperative car society.”
Honda hopes to have this technology widely available by 2020.
“The Contra Costa Transportation Authority and GoMentum Station are committed to supporting innovative research that will influence transportation and enhance safety for all road users,” said Randy Iwasaki, Executive Director, CCTA. “Our partners are developing autonomous and connected vehicle technology that will help accelerate the next generation of transportation infrastructure and make the future of driving safer around the world.”

Honda Comes Out On Top With Four Awards
The results are in! U.S. News and World Report has released its annual list of “Best Cars for Families” for 2016. From price and amenities to space and fuel economy, these vehicles are the best that the industry has to offer. More than 250 new cars, SUVs, and minivans were taken into consideration for this list and out of 21 categories, Honda came out on top in four of them, more than any other competitor. The categories that Honda won were the Sub-Compact SUV (HR-V), the Compact SUV (CR-V), the Three-Row SUV (Pilot), and the Minivan (Odyssey).
