2017 Honda Ridgeline Boosts Fuel Economy
For a long time now, the argument against driving a truck versus a sedan or even a compact SUV, was fuel economy. Honda listened to all the usual complaints like, gas prices are too high, the emissions need to be lower and the MPG needs to be higher, and designed the 2017 Honda Ridgeline. The new pickup brings that brand back into the truck segment in a big way by boosting the fuel economy by 5 MPG.
Compared to competitors, the 2017 Ridgeline fares well with gettings 19 miles per gallon in the city and 26 highway. With its current rating, it comes close to truck with a four-cylinder and rear-drive.

In honor of April being Distracted Driving Awareness Month, Honda has released a new anti-texting and driving campaign on their YouTube page. Texting and Driving is an ongoing problem that is becoming more and more prominent as smartphone usage continues to climb. Today, people everywhere are so glued to their smartphone and mobile devices that they have difficulty putting them down. As a result, people are reaching for their phones to answer texts and calls even when they should be concentrating on being behind the wheel.
One of the biggest issues with texting & driving is that too many individuals believe that they are experts at multitasking. In fact, studies have shown that around 98% of people believe that they are good at multitasking when in fact, the more confident you are in your ability to multitask, the more mistakes you will be prone to making. This exact issue has been highlighted in six new videos released by Honda that show people trying to perform simple everyday tasks such as working out and vacuuming while texting. The videos highlight how the distraction of their phone causes them to make mistakes.

The Automotive News 2016 PACE (Premier Automotive Suppliers’ Contribution to Excellence) Awards Ceremony occurred last week in Detroit. After their collaboration on the development of the Bidirectional Long Range Communication System, two companies, Honda R&D Americas Inc. and Continental, an international automotive supplier, were awarded the Innovative Partnership Award. The Bidirectional Long Range Communication System is an innovative system that lets a key fob perform several helpful features from up to a third of a mile away, including the ability to activate climate controls, lock/unlock the vehicle, and even start the engine.
“Building a successful partnership like the one forged with Continental does not happen overnight,” said Frank Paluch, President of Honda R&D Americas, Inc. “It takes time, trust, teamwork and a singular goal – to deliver a product that provides great value to our customers. It is an honor to be recognized by the PACE award committee for this innovative collaboration.”

The newest episode of the “What Makes a Honda is Who Makes a Honda” series has just been released by the brand. This episode focuses on mechanical engineer Clement D’Souza who is a 26 year veteran of Honda of America Mfg., Inc.. He was most recently largely a part of the creation and development of the new Performance Manufacturing Center in Marysville, Ohio that will be exclusively responsible for the global production of the 2017 Acura NSX supercar.
Clement and his family were originally from India where his first passion was field hockey and then became motorcycles when he moved to the U.S. This second love is what led him to become part of the Honda team where he worked and grew over time. Finally, in 2012, he was presented with the opportunity to become the project leader for the development of the new NSX and he eagerly took on the challenge to become part of the development of an entirely new vehicle.
D’Souza speaks to the challenging spirit of Honda as the secret to his enduring commitment to the company. “You can produce something in a new way,” he said. “The ability to dream and try something that nobody else has, I think that’s the reason I’ve been with Honda 26 years.”

MotorWeek has released their Road Test review of the 2016 Honda Civic Coupe and from the sounds of things their excitement is not far from what they previously expressed for the sedan version of this all-new Civic.
The review starts out with MotorWeek host and creator, John Davis commenting on the eye-catching, sportier design of this all-new model. Some of the specific design elements that he points out include the sharp roofline, aggressive front end, and new full-length taillight design.
When they take it out for a drive, they note that the new Civic Coupe offers a smooth ride and impressive handling abilities that drivers are sure to love. This model also comes equipped with an abundance of safety and convenience features that make this model stand out even more.

Honda Sees Sales Increase During March
Honda reported their March sales last week showing an increase of 10.5 percent, selling a total of 123,369 units last month. Honda cars were up 12.7 percent after reaching 68,314 units, while Honda trucks were up 6.9 percent, selling 55,055 units. The Honda Civic continued to lead the way by a record-setting March performance with 26,985 units, a 12.7 percent increase. The Accord and HR-V also experienced great numbers in March selling 30,523 units and 6,398 units respectively.
“The power of Honda’s well-balanced portfolio was on full display in March,” said Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of the Honda Division. “Importantly, we will continue to strengthen both our car and truck lineups throughout the year, with new core and niche products to further extend the brand’s appeal.”
