The Honda brand has certainly withstood the test of time and remained relevant throughout the last 44 years. They took that time to perfect the small, affordable car and made sporty versions and hybrid versions for more personalization.

A perfect example of this is the Honda Civic. The latest generation of the Civic would be considered the “tech” version. This model is so packed with cool features, reporter Nick Jaynes of Mashable didn’t know what to try out first!

His first impression was obviously about the exterior of the vehicle. The unit that Jaynes drove around was the eye-catching Energy Green Pearl color, was “chromed-out”, and featured a cool LED tail light bar.

Once he got inside, he was equally impressed. The Honda Sensing suite of safety features caught his attention first. The Civic he was driving included Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, and Forward Collision Warning with Mitigation Braking. Jaynes suggested these advanced safety features have their names changed to semi-autonomous features. He also points out that Honda’s inclusion of these features on such an affordable sedan is a step in the right direction for the auto industry. Why make these life-saving features available only to people who can afford a car that’s over $50,000?

Jaynes also remarked on the 7” touchscreen infotainment system, navigation system, and its super crisp handling on the road.

To experience all these features and more come into DELLA Honda in Plattsburgh today and we’ll be happy to put you in the driver’s seat!

Even if you aren’t a mechanic, you know what your car should look, sound, and smell like, just from everyday driving. However, if you do notice something out of the ordinary, like an odd smell, it’s a good thing to know what might be causing it. Below are six common smells that will be helpful to add to your basic car knowledge.

  • Acrid – Burnt brake material is usually the source of an acrid (harsh burning) smell. If you encounter this smell make sure you aren’t riding your brakes and that your parking brake is off.
  • Burning Oil – A burning oil smell is usually caused when oil drips on any part of the exhaust system. The smell is very distinct and is often accompanied by a thick smoke. To get rid of the smell, get rid of the leak.
  • Gasoline – If you smell gasoline, and you didn’t just fill up at the gas station, it’s likely that something more severe is going on. The smell could be coming from a leak in the fuel line, bad fuel pressure, or from a number of other causes. Get your vehicle looked at as soon as possible so you don’t put yourself or anyone else in any danger.
  • Musty – A musty odor means that water is settling somewhere inside your vehicle and allowing mold or mildew to prosper. Check for damp upholstery or floor mats and let you car air out on the next nice day.
  • Sulfur – Just like burning oil, sulfur is a pretty distinctive smell. If you get a whiff of rotten eggs, bring your car in for a checkup as the catalytic converter may need repairing.
  • Sweet – A sweet smell is not something you usually associate with your car unless you just picked up a dozen doughnuts for the office. If this isn’t the case, check under your parked car for an antifreeze leak right away as the heater core may be leaking.

Bring your car into DELLA Honda in Plattsburgh if you smell any of these or other smells and we will gladly take a look at your vehicle for you!

Team_Honda_Week_of_Service__1Last month, Honda celebrated its inaugural Honda Week of Service. Throughout North America, over 16,000 volunteers participated in a variety of community service and outreach programs. One of the organizations that benefited from the generosity of Honda was Agape Distribution.

“When people come down here, they’re really beat down by life. They come in and get 95 pounds of free groceries, and it brings hope to them,” said John Geissler, CEO of Agape Distribution. “I dreamed about getting this building painted, so our customers don’t look like they’re going to a food pantry, they look like they’re going to a grocery store. It’s everything to me.”

From June 10th through the 19th, volunteers in 41 states (as well as Canada and Mexico) participated in 425 coordinated activities which led to:

  • 3,000 families fed
  • 60,000 canned goods & meals provided
  • 2,500 children provided school supplies
  • 200 animals helped/adopted
  • 75 homes painted/refurbished
  • 350 bags of trash collected
  • 600 pints of blood donated
  • $75,000 (approx.) in individual charitable donations

“We are so thankful to our associates and business partners who took time out to help improve the lives of people in the communities where we live and work,” said Executive Vice President Rick Schostek, Honda North America, Inc. “This week was an example of what can happen when a team of people come together to help their neighbors.”

If you were a child or young adult in the 90’s then you’ll probably remember Sonic the Hedgehog and the SEGA® video game he starred in. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of this iconic character, SEGA® asked Honda to custom design a Honda Civic fit for the blue runner.

“What better way to showcase the incredibly sporty performance capability of the 10th generation Civic than by pairing it with gaming industry’s ultimate athlete – Sonic the Hedgehog,” said James Jenkins, Public Relations Manager for the Honda Division. “As the fan favorite game and character celebrates his 25th anniversary on the scene, we hope that all Sonic fans – those who remember playing years ago and those who continue playing today – rejoice in his all-new ride, as much as we enjoyed creating it.”

The Sonic-influenced design includes:

  • Custom wheels representing Sonic’s famous red shoes and the gold rings he sought out
  • Custom Sonic the Hedgehog front and rear seats with Katzkin Blue Leather
  • Custom “Sonic the Hedgehog” 25th Anniversary embroidered logos
  • Custom one-of-a-kind vinyl Sonic the Hedgehog design and paint scheme
  • Custom Sonic Yellow throughout including a Sonic Yellow Honda logo
  • Custom trunk design with Rockford Fosgate audio-visual system featuring two 500-watt 10” subwoofers, and a floor-mounted flip-up/down 32” television for video game fans to play classic “Sonic the Hedgehog” games

We all know that music can evoke strong emotional responses. Whether a song makes you want to dance, cry, or sing along, we can all connect with it. Honda is tapping into that general love of music in its new ad series, “Now Is The Moment.” In this series, several potential buyers experience “love at first sight” and hear tunes that everyone can recognize when they set eyes on different Honda models.

“This eye-catching campaign celebrates that moment when a buyer falls for a new Honda, and the Honda brand begins an enduring connection with the customer,” said Susie Rossick, Assistant Vice President of Marketing at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “Ultimately, our goal is to break through the car sales-event clutter and remind people that summer is the best time to get a great deal on a Honda.”
